Stop sexual abuse in family #AAH

This very important topic of sexual abuse within family needs to be addressed right away. Seems like we have been neglecting it for a very long time.

In this video Ms Akancha Srivastava- Founder of ‘Akancha Against Harassment’ addresses the topic of sexual attacks & abuse within family that rarely get reported.

In a recent study of reported cases of ra*pes, in over 34,651 incidents, over 33,098 offenders were known to the victims! It included neighbors & even grand parents. That’s absolutely horrifying. Several victims live with this trauma forever!

Due to our social/cultural conditioning, children, women & young adults are fearful of speaking up or questioning elders. A small percentage of victims who do speak up often face wrath of family. They are not believed or criticised. Families don’t want to report sexual abuse in family.

We need to learn & teach critical thinking. Any action that is uncomfortable should be questioned, no matter who the doer. We can only stop sexual abuse in family when we stop treating elders are unquestionable Gods.

Give children confidence that they can confide in you. Parents/siblings should be the first go to for any incident.

Also, please report any sexual predator in the family. They might have attacked several other family members who never spoke up or even intend to do so in future. By reporting them, you break this cycle of abuse.
