Stop Rumours  #AAH

Corona Pandemic has also brought around another virus- Fake news & rumours!

In this video Ms Akancha Srivastava- Founder of ‘Akancha Against Harassment’ says- Stop rumours! This chain of fake news & rumours has to be broken for us in order to maintain peace & law and order.

In several recent incidents, people have been hit by panic attacks when fake news has gone viral. For example, there were rumours that Mumbai will have absolute curfew & army rule was being imposed. On getting that fake news forward, people started worrying, rushed to panic buy stuff. Anyone with illness started worrying about stocking medicines and there was a shortfall of important medical supplies.

That’s why we should stop rumours! It might aggravate illnesses, create short supply of important medicals & essential supplies.

Currently, during Corona lockdown, police, health care workers are overburdened. When we spread fake news, we force the machinery to work twice as hard to even dispel these rumours. It’s an added burden. As a socially responsible citizens, we should be careful to stop rumours!

When you receive any news on your WhatsApp or any social media, don’t be in a rush to share even if it’s sensational. Please check for government handles & verify with authentic sources before forwarding them. It sour responsibility to make sure no panic is spread and we stop rumours.

We want to remind you that sharing fake news is also punishable!
