Social media has become an important part of expression for us. And, sometimes it is difficult to differentiate between people who are responding to our comments or posts for a genuine discussion or trolling us. But, the 3 tips to handle online trolls will make your online interactions safe.

Most importantly, please remember not everyone who is opposing your view is trolling you. Trolls engage to get emotional reactions and trigger arguments. To spot a troll pay attention to:

  • Is the person responding with off-topic subjects?
  • Is the person responding with insulting memes, images or videos of you?
  • Is the person repeatedly responding with negative statements?

 

These 3 tips to handle online trolls will come handy when you face similar circumstances.

 

Firstly, all you need to do to handle a troll is, don’t feed emotional reactions. A troll’s only motive is to trigger an emotional response out of you. Ignoring them always discourages them.

 

Secondly, if you are receiving too many spams from a troll, please file a report with the platform you are using. Making a complaint is not just your right but also, your duty. Your timely action can save you and other people from becoming a target.

 

Thirdly, in case you are not satisfied by the action taken by the platform or trolling turns into harassment or humiliation, please file a formal complaint with police authorities and make sure that you submit proper evidence. To handle an online troll, it is important to address the situation with alertness.

 

Lastly, be strong, when we are online, we will surely come across reactions that are not pleasant but always remember, if these comments and reactions are not threatening or humiliating you in any way, don’t let them bother you.
